uwait

Privacy, in plain words

Do we read your prompts?

No. uwait never reads your prompts or the AI's answers.

The extension detects only two things: that a response is being generated, and which public domains the AI cited. Everything you type and everything the AI replies stays on your device.

Trust is the whole product. So here is the honest, technical version of what uwait can see, what leaves your computer, and what never does. No fine print, no hedging.

How it works

How can it pay you without reading anything?

uwait fills the seconds while the AI is thinking with a small, native ad. To do that, it needs timing and citations, not content. Here is the full picture.

01

It notices a response is generating

The extension watches for the visual state of the AI typing back to you. That timing signal is the only cue it needs to fill the wait with a native ad.

02

It reads the public domains the AI cited

When the answer references sources, the extension reads the public domain names already shown on screen. Those domains decide who earns royalties.

03

It never opens the words themselves

Your question and the answer text are not parsed, copied, or sent anywhere. The extension has no reason to read them and it does not.

The exact boundary

What leaves, and what stays

Two short lists. The left is everything that ever leaves your device. The right is everything that never does.

What we send

Leaves your device, anonymised

  • Anonymised ad eventsA signal that an ad slot was shown, viewed, or clicked while a response was generating. No identity, no content, just the event.
  • The list of cited domainsThe public domains the AI referenced in its answer (for example wikipedia.org or nytimes.com), so royalties can reach the right sources.
  • Which AI tool you are onWhether the session is ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Mistral, Copilot, DeepSeek, or Grok, so the right placement loads. Not what you asked it.

What stays on your device

Never leaves, never read

  • Your promptsEverything you type into the AI stays in your browser. It is never read, stored, or transmitted by uwait.
  • The AI's answersThe full text of every response stays on your device. We see that an answer is being generated, never its contents.
  • Page and conversation contentThe body of the pages you visit and your chat history are off limits. The extension does not collect them.

Why we built it this way

Why not just read everything?

Because we never need to, and because you would never trust an ad network that did. uwait makes money from the wait time, not from your data. The bid that wins a slot is matched on aggregated, anonymised signals, never on individuals and never on prompts.

The cited domains do one useful thing beyond ads: they power Fund the Sources. After an answer, you can optionally send a few cents to the sites the AI drew from. The AI uses their work, so you can pay them back. That only needs the domain, not what was said.
